Bubble Girl Meets World

A Global Game Jam prototype turned Game for Change Submission, turned Open Sauce exhibit. It's a vertical platformer about the oceanic pollution caused by Big Oil.

The game was originally a prototype from Global Game Jam 2025. Then, its demo version was submitted to and accepted by Open Sauce 2025, a creative tech convention based in San Mateo, CA.

Seven Parsons students, in total, including me, worked on this project while in school, and we all played to our strengths to best realize our final vision. During this process, I was the primary programmer and the team lead. In addition to these responsibilities, I also participated in designing the core game mechanic alongside some of our other teammates.

After our exhibition at Open Sauce, we gained some insightful feedback from the guests who played our game, and we are considering including those insights into our game. Some of the insights include advice on better portraying the sense of verticality within the game level. Our choice of platform, PC gaming with mouse and keyboard, with the typical sixteen-to-nine aspect ratio, posed some obstacles in portraying verticality. Prior to these pieces of feedback, this issue was something we had already tried to tackle through several different angles: the level itself, the camera movement, and the character movement. Yet it seems that this issue persists, and we are hopeful of fixing it through incorporating new insights.
